My name is Margherita

Margherita is a little girl who feels that, since her parents separated, even her name has been split in two.

When she is with her dad, she is Rita: she wakes up early, has breakfast at home, rides her bike to school, and always arrives ahead of time. When she is with her mum, she is Marghe: she wakes up at the very last minute, has breakfast in the car, and reaches school just as the bell rings.

When she was little, everyone called her by the same name: Meggy. Now it feels as if Mum and Dad have each taken a piece of her name.

Over time, though, Margherita realizes that her true self remains unchanged. Although she now moves between Mum’s house and Dad’s, she feels deeply loved by both. These days, she looks to the future with curiosity, wondering what this new life has in store for her, and she finds that she actually likes some of it.
