A tender picture book about never giving up, trusting yourself, and following your heart!
“Bre… bredouille*, once again… nothing!”
Bredouille, always empty-handed.
But today, on his way back from picking, Bredouille has found a perfectly round little ball of yarn. At once, he knits, knits, knits. From the ball is born… a sock! Bredouille is proud of himself and can’t wait to show it to his friends. »
In Bredouille, we knit, unravel, and knit again. On every page, there’s an attempt to bring joy – followed by disappointment. Yet Bredouille never gives up. He tries again, and again, and again… until his slightly clumsy friends return to him, so they can mend together what they had undone.
A gentle and clever picture book about perseverance, resourcefulness, and learning to live together. Written with the rhythm of a playful refrain, Agnès Domergue crafts a story at a child’s level – both funny and true – perfect for early shared readings.
For one of the very first times both author and illustrator, she brings Bredouille’s world to life with great poetry, using a mix of techniques such as watercolor, pastel, gouache, and stamping.
* bredouille (Fr.) – unsuccessful, empty-handed
