An ode to letting go, full of humor and fantasy!

How does one evolve from rigid order to pure spontaneity? This story delicately portrays the transformation of Mr. Bérard, a meticulous and orderly man, faced with the unexpected arrival of a hippopotamus named Arthur in his life. His struggle against chaos and his discovery of lightness through an improbable friendship — filled with tender and comical moments —  highlight the importance of embracing change, the joy of shared moments, and the power of emotions, ultimately breaking the strongest routine.

Henri Meunier’s beautiful text invites fantasy and tenderness into a world constrained by rigidity and rules; Olivier Latyk’s images, created with the support of a CNL grant, illuminate the music and evolution of the story.

Author & Illustator:

After studying visual arts alongside training in community education and several years of social work, Henri Meunier is now an author and illustrator for children.

Born in Strasbourg, Olivier Latyk studied illustration at the École Olivier de Serres in Paris and at the Arts Décoratifs de Strasbourg in Claude Lapointe’s studio. Also a designer, he now lives in Arles.
