Who is coming to visit Eb and Flo?

It turns out to be a cat with a wonderful smile and a … thingamajig*!

Eb and Flo and their world grew out of Mette Vedsø and Pia Halse’s strong desire to create high-quality literature for the very youngest readers, from around eighteen months old.

Eb and Flo are two characters with opposite temperaments — their names are inspired by the Danish words ebbe and flod, meaning “ebb” and “flow.” One is, on the surface, a little stubborn, steady and thoughtful… like the yellow sandbank; the other is spontaneous, eager and ever-changing… like the blue sea.

They live in a wooden hut on a sandy spit. All around them is nature — the wild sky, the sandbank and the depths of the sea.

*Orig. ”makadut” is a playful Danish placeholder word for an object whose name is unknown or forgotten. Thingamajig was chosen as the closest natural English equivalent, preserving the humorous, child-friendly tone of the original.
