“Grandma had noticed that her eyes had also gotten smaller, so she got new glasses, but that didn’t help much. She couldn’t really see herself in the mirror. Where have I gone? Grandma thought – and laughed.” Beste is a blooming beautiful story about being so old that everything gets smaller (except your ears) and about the naturalness of having to say goodbye.

The story is written by 90-year-old Patricia Ryan and illustrated by her long-time (and many years younger) friend Anna Margrethe Kjærgaard.

Author & Illustrator

Patricia Ryan – born in New York, she moved to Denmark as a young woman and became an integral part of the Danish flower-power era. Patricia made her debut as an author at the age of 80 in 2023, and Granny was published on her 90th birthday.

Anna Margrethe Kjærgaard – educated at the Danish Design School and the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków, she is an award-winning illustrator who in recent years has also gained international recognition for her work on numerous picture books.
